"How do you observe things" is the most important
During the outbreak of the new coronavirus, the government of my hometown required everyone to isolate at home and not go out at will. Many elderly people living alone cannot get the visit and care of their children. They feel helpless and abandoned. An old man living alone hanged himself in the park due to physical or psychological anxiety. This incident made me realize the helplessness and need of care for the elderly.
Aging world trend
Increased life expectancy and lower fertility
rates are driving this change. By 2100, the number
of people over 60 may be closer to 4bn, nearly 60%
of the global population
Mobility is important to the elderly, even if it is just within their own surroundings. Make sure they are properly fitted for either a wheelchair, motorized mobility chair, walker or cane. Install a wheelchair ramp, hand rails and wider door wells to make getting around the house hassle-free. A hospital bed, shower chair, lift or tripod bar may assist with getting up from bed or staying safe in the shower.
Transportation can be lifesaving to an elderly person. If he can no longer drive, set up transportation so he can get to and from medical appointments and physical therapy. Having a caretaker or assistant who visits on certain days to take an elderly person to run errands, to attend a social function or to go to the doctor is beneficial.
Senior citizens need proper medication to remain healthy. This begins with adequate medical care, such as doctor’s visits, dental care, foot care, eye care, physical therapy and psychiatric therapy, if needed. If they need assistance with taking their pills or giving themselves shots of insulin, a home-health nursing system may need to be added to their daily plan of care.
Personal care is an important daily need for a senior citizen. She may need assistance with bathing, dressing and personal grooming. A home-health aide or other family member can help with these tasks, if necessary.
An elderly person needs proper nutrition to stay healthy and enjoy a comfortable life. Have a nutritionist or caregiver go over a daily meal plan to know what foods best fit that person’s lifestyle. Meals can be prepared weekly so it is easier for the senior citizen to heat and eat a warm meal every day. Programs such as Meals on Wheels ensure that an elderly person receives at least one healthy meal daily.
Lack of company and emotional emptiness brought by old age.
This inevitably leads to insecurity, and the sense of self-worth diminishes as the attention of the family and other members of the society decreases.Older people need privacy as much as adults. They should be free to do what they like to do in their own home without being judged or criticized. They need to establish an emotional connection with someone or other people to satisfy their emotional desires.
Support the elderly to lead a more fulfilling and longer working life. This means studying the factors that cause the employment rate of the elderly to vary from person to person.
Lifelong learning prospects and benefits: Learning has a positive impact on physical and mental health, can improve well-being, and reduce pressure on family and community resources and services. Because, 40% of 55-64 year-olds have not received formal training or education after leaving school.
Adapt to the workplace. These measures include addressing negative attitudes and health needs of older workers, improving workplace design, encouraging access to new technologies, and adjusting human resources policies and work practices
Difficulties:
1 Cost and who is responsible for paying
2 Digital and technical skills often encounter greater obstacles
3 A <<2015 Eurobarometer report>> found that 42% of people believe that age discrimination against people over 55 is “common”37.
Solution: Improve workplace design, encourage access to new technologies, and adjust human resource policies and work practices.djjd
1 Improve interventions to prevent and manage chronic diseases
2 Supporting families and other unpaid caregivers: Between 2007 and 2032, the number of people aged 65 and over who need unpaid care is expected to increase by more than 1 million
3 Take advantage of the opportunities presented by new technologies. The intelligent use of assistive technology, home health monitoring equipment and big data may change the care of families and communities, reduce national health and care expenditures, and improve well-being. Taking advantage of these opportunities will require actions to address the barriers to the application of these technologies and the sensitivity to public privacy issues.
In 2033, demand will increase by 70% to 86,000 sets per year84. The increase in demand is likely to be driven by more elderly people with acute or chronic disabilities. Currently, only 7% of the elderly live in specialized housing. Therefore, the suitability of mainstream housing may have a greater impact on the aging population.
The aging population will change housing demand. In particular, there may be a need for more adaptable, professional, smarter, and better-neighborly housing.
Advantages: In 2013, the value of grandparents’ childcare to the UK economy was £7.3 billion, almost twice the value estimated in 2004. The Millennium Cohort study found that in families with 9-month-old babies, grandparents provided at least 42% of the families With some care, grandparent care helps the younger generation stay employed, cultivate children’s happiness, and may provide more opportunities to share skills and support.
Problem: Some grandparents who raised their grandchildren also reported that they experienced isolation, discrimination (considered too old to be cared for) and lack of support (financial and practical)
Social isolation affects 7–17% of the elderly, and it is becoming more and more common. 163. Social isolation is associated with an increased risk of death164-People who are closely related to society are less likely to die by 50%. 165. Although loneliness and isolation can cause Depression and poor cardiovascular health, but little is known about the mechanism that causes this.
Classify the content I collected (yellow note: human services, Blue Note: mechanical technology, pink: network or big data, green: Artificial Intelligence)
The table is classified according to the seven living needs of the elderly
Find out what we haven’t developed according to the development degree of the industry, and then study the future vision.
Through the demonstration, I found that what may happen in the distant future is more use of network big data technology to solve the problems of the elderly in an aging society.
Goal:To design an Big Data/AI platform to help the elderly live an independent and happy life.
POV:An elderly living alone, he feels very lonely, many life things can not be done at home, he wants to be taken care of by his children but it is very difficult, because the children work in other cities far away from him
HMW strategies:
Amp up the good:HMW make the system enables the elderly to realize their social values and make themselves more independent and confident
Remove the bad:HMW Let the elderly avoid losing dignity and privacy when they are taken care of
Explore the opposites: HMW make the elderly life without children become the happiest part of life
Question an assumption:HMW Let the system replace nursing workers and children to accompany the elderly
Go after adjective:HMW Turn “helplessness” into “security”
ID unexpected resource:HMW Use the data and knowledge obtained when helping an old man to educate and help other old people
Create an analogy from need or context: HMW Turn the pension system into a virtual elderly community platform or online hospital.
Play POV againat the challenge:HMW Let the pension problem no longer be the trouble of the elderly and the burden of their children.
Change a statue quo:HMW Let the old man’s independent life no longer so helpless and worried
